Reasons why senior citizens should write & register will

Property Sharks

Besides the domestic help, another segment that preys on affluent senior citizens that of property sharks.  “Old widows, even couples, living in mansions situated in upmarket colonies, with are worth crores, are prime targets of property dealers and   builders and they lay traps to usurp the property of such people.  First, a dealer pretending to be well wisher, begins visiting the elderly person’s home and helps them with small errands.  At times these relationships are matured for years.  Having gained their confidence, he makes seemingly lucrative offer and thereafter continually makes them offer to sell the property.  Few take the bait and sign sale document on being paid small advance.

Thereafter, instead of paying the balance, the builder/dealer brings false charges and files a case against the elderly.  Armed with battery of lawyers, he gets an injunction in Court so that he does not have to pay the balance till court gives its judgement.  Case drags on for years.  Then begins the threats and harassment so much so that elderly person agrees to an out of the court settlement.   He is paid a pittance and deprived of his property.

Sometimes the builders/dealers create rift between parents and their rightful heirs.  The game is played over years until they get aged parents to sign the rights to a property in their favour.
